What is Hybrid GeothermalTM

Geothermal - The Buried Treasure!

HYBRID GEOTHERMALTM

Best in Class!

It’s proven in the field!

What Hybrid Geothermal (HGE) is?

Hybrid Geothermal (HGE)TM provides sustainable and renewable energy using ground & surfaces such as parking area, play ground or even building roof that can be used as energy absorber or energy rejector to either heat or cool the geothermal field to provide building heating and cooling without burning fossil fuels.

Hybrid GeothermalTM uses four principle components:

  • 1. Thermal Energy AbsorberTM
  • 2. Thermal Energy RejectorTM,
  • 3. Geothermal ReservoirTM (Vertical bore hole field) and
  • 4. Geothermal Energy StationTM is a prefabricated, self-contained energy station includes high efficient water to water heat pumps, dual circulators, valves, air separator, piping and a control system.

How Hybrid Geothermal (HGE) Works?

Every case is different – and building energy requirements is dependent on the building usage. However HGE is flexible if design properly such as :

Natural Heating without burning fossil fuel

HGE can capture surplus heat from sun in summer or heat energy extracted to cool the building which will be stores in the Geothermal Reservoir in the ground and recycled back to the building in winter to provide heating without burning fossil fuels.

Natural Cooling at pumping cost:

HGE can reject excess heat when external temperatures are low - at night or in winter. This allows a large volume of Geothermal ReservoirTM to achieve significantly lower temperature which can be maintained over the spring and used in summer for the building to reject heat to – this permits natural cooling of the building at a fraction of the cost of air conditioning. Buildings with higher cooling loads are ideal candidates for HGE.

A Unique geothermal system that REUSE, RECYCLE & REDUCE energy.

Energy Efficiencies & Low Carbon Foot Print:

By comparing traditional geothermal field, the HGE system increases the energy efficiency ratio (EER) by 40% and Coefficient of performance (COP) by 25% of Central Water to Water heat pumps or distributed heat pumps in all seasons.

HGE Application:

With Respect To Building Energy Demands:

Cool Dominant Building
Heat Dominant Building
Buildings with Balance Cooling and Heating loads

With Respect To Building Types:

Industrial Buildings, Data Centers, Apartments, Hotels, Condominiums, Offices, Schools, Assisted Living, Health care, Retail stores, Restaurants, Conference facilities and may more…

HGE Flexibility:

Every project is different! Each HGE is unique and tailored to meet the energy needs of the building while ensuring optimum system efficiency, sustainability and most importantly reliability.

HGE is so flexible that it can connect to any HVAC system such as:

  • - Water cooled Central Water to Water Heat Pump
  • - Water Cooled Central Chillers
  • - Water Cooled Central Heat Pumps
  • - Integrated Piping System (IPS)
  • - Distributed Heat Pump System
  • - Fan Coil Systems
  • - Variable Refrigerant Volume System
  • - Industrial Spot Cooling & Heating System

Installation Cost:

  • 1. Thermal Energy AbsorberTM
    - $3 to $5 per sq.ft or
$800 to $1,200 per Block Load in tons.

  • 2. Thermal Energy RejectorTM
    - $3 to $5 per sq.ft or
$800 to $1,200 per Block Load in tons.

  • 3. Geothermal ReservoirTM
-Vertical bore hole field - $12 to $17 per foot of drilling
    - Horizontal in 2 layers - $2 to 2.5 per sq.ft of geo field area

  • 4. Geothermal Energy StationTM
    - $1.5 to $2 per sq.ft of condition areas or
$1,500 to 2,000 per Block Load in tons.

The Cool Dominant Building …

HGE offer modular system combination approach for projects that will be constructed in several phases. HGE field at 501 Alliance - office project in Toronto was built in two (2) phases.

Low installation cost – HGE is around 10% lower in cost when compared with traditional geothermal field system. Drilling is more expensive than installing ¾” pipes in asphalt parking areas. In 501 Alliance - office project, where the initial cost of traditional vertical geothermal field was around $2460/ton actually ended up paying $2250/ton with HGE system due to relatively smaller field size and thermal energy rejector system.
